Cambridge Chemistry Challenge
Over 6500 students year 12 students from across the country were stretched and challenged as part of The Cambridge Chemistry Challenge. The challenge takes place in college and takes the form of a 90 minute written paper. Questions are based on AS-level knowledge, but extend the understanding and application of knowledge beyond that at AS-level.
Achieving an award in the challenge is a great achievement, demonstrating that the student has an excellent understanding of AS-level work and are able to apply it to new situations. One of our students, Joe Gregory achieved the highest award – Rontgenium, which placed him in the top 50 students who took the test - winning Joe a place on a summer school at the University of Cambridge. Thad Kenny achieved a Gold award, placing him in the top 7 % of students in the country. Two students – Syed Ahmed and Nicole Searle achieved Silver awards, placing them in the top 13 % of students in the country.
The challenge was aimed at the best students, so to achieve these extremely high performances is a great achievement and credit to the students and the college.
