At Ashton Sixth Form College, we offer our students the invaluable opportunity to participate in work placements as an integral part of their study programmes. For those enrolled in full-time vocational courses, these placements are a mandatory component, providing hands-on experience that complements their academic learning.
Our dedicated Work Placement team work tirelessly to secure a variety of suitable placements across the local area and in Manchester. These opportunities are carefully selected to offer students a real taste of working life, helping them build essential skills and gain insights into their future careers. The team continuously reviews and expands our network of placement providers to ensure a broad and diverse range of opportunities.
Gaining work experience is a powerful way to demonstrate to future employers that you are serious about your career. If you are enrolled in Childcare, Health and Social Care, Sports, or Football Coaching courses, work placements are a compulsory part of your programme. These placements encourage independent thinking, problem-solving, and the development of key skills such as communication, responsibility, and time management.
For those working with children or vulnerable adults in regulated activities, our Work Placement team will assist you in applying for an enhanced DBS check, which is required before starting your placement.
Previous students have enjoyed placements with organizations such as GMP Police, Tameside Council, private day nurseries, care homes, primary and high schools, media companies across Manchester, including Mad Lab, pharmacies, Active Tameside, Tameside Radio, and many more.
