As part of their Volunteering unit, Level 3 Extended Diploma Public Services students have been raising money for ‘Our Kids Eyes’. After researching a number of national and local charities the group presented their findings to their class and asked which charity they should support. Local Tameside charity OKE, who work with children with disabilities and special needs and help support their families received the most votes.

The sponsored ride took just over 3 hours to complete, with 3 students working as a relay team to complete 60 miles (96.5 Kilometres) in total. The lads started outside the Student Centre with support from fellow students and teachers and the support continued throughout the morning. Thankfully there were no punctures, none of the riders got lost and there was no wind to contend with, now you might feel the students were very lucky, but these are the benefits of using a static bike!

So the students didn’t see Blackpool Tower on the horizon, nor did they feel the sea breeze, but they did raise over £500 for OKE (Our Kids Eyes). Well done to the riders Matty Harrison, Ross Pringle and Andrew Burr and many thanks to Nathan Martin, Joe Fish and Josh Katihrob for their support.
