Champions!
Without doubt the most successful college sports team this year has been the basketball squad. With 15 players fighting for 5 positions the competition for places has been intense. Each player has played their part along the way and with every player turning up to training most weeks it shows how much they have enjoyed it, a great testimony to the coach Chris Banks, who has done a brilliant job.
The players have been highly professional, attending training on time, with a competitive and winning attitude. Their hard work and commitment has paid off, translating directly to the court, not only are they the league champions but they have also won the cup.
Winning the league on points scored and the cup by 1 point in the final demonstrates how competitive and difficult it has been, so to only lose 1 game all season is an unbelievable achievement. Playing late fixtures meant early starts and late finishes for a number of the team but this didn’t deter the players in any way. With the majority of the players being in their first year at college, we are expecting to challenge to retain both titles next year.
