Remembrance Day
Over 400 Ashton Sixth Form College students gathered together to remember members of the armed forces who have died in the line of duty, as well as all those who have been involved with and affected by war and conflict. Lessons were postponed in order to allow students to gather in the courtyard to hear readings and observe the 2 minutes silence.
Led by College Chaplain Jean Hurlston the service included readings from 1st year Public Services students Lukasz Krause (Fire Service Cadet) and Thomas Broadway (Police Cadet), whilst the Last Post was performed impeccably by second year music student Alice Thompson.
Creative Digital Arts students took the opportunity to create a video of the service which will be shared with all students. Throughout the day they have been asking “What does Remembrance Day mean to you?”
“Remembrance Day means remembering those who lost their lives in warfare for our country and paying our respects to those still in combat” (student response)
Many of our public services students are also members of the Armed Forces Cadets and have travelled to France for Remembrance Day services, they will be sharing memories and images with their classmates on their return.
