Panto for Inspire Academy Pupils

17 December 2015

The brand new reception class at Inspire Academy, Ashton, got the chance to see this year's Ashton Sixth Form College panto as they winded up a successful end to their first term.

Cinderella, performed by second year Performing Arts students thrilled the 60 reception class and nursery pupils of the new school which only recently opened in September.

The show included all the classics to the fairy tale story including the Wicked Step-Mother, the Ugly Step-Sisters, Cinderella’s good friend Buttons, Prince Charming and of course Cinderella herself.

Each year the Ashton Sixth Form College Students perform a pantomime to an audience of 4 – 9-year-olds. The project requires students to tell a classic story, developed through improvisation, devising a script, choreographing scenes and directing the production. Including the composition of live music to accompany their character design in the performance.

Luke Fraser, previously of Droylsden Academy, dreams of attending the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts said: “Performing for the kids has been a brand new experience, one that has been fun and a wonderful challenge. We were able to work as a team, creating the script which was a fantastic opportunity.”

Kerry-Anne Lomas who played Cinderella in the pantomime went to Copley High School before coming to Ashton Sixth Form, she said: “I am loving panto season and I am very grateful for the opportunities Ashton Sixth Form College has given to me. Studying here has opened up doors I never thought were possible. I am amazed at the support and the knowledge of the tutors who have been there to guide me through many aspects of the course.”

Both the staff and students of Inspire Academy as well as the students from Ashton Sixth Form College can’t wait for next year’s panto.
