#WorldBookDay Takes Over Ashton Sixth Form College

2 March 2017

#WorldBookDay was celebrated in style at Ashton Sixth Form College on March 2. Within college, the Student Council's aim is to be the voice of the students and make real changes to improve the student experience and they felt that the profile of reading and the benefits of literacy could be raised through World Book Day.

Celebrating its 20th year, World Book Day is nationally recognised. Staff from across college made an incredible effort. Inclusive learning became The Cat in the Hat, Sport and Public Services became a mix from Mary Poppins to the BFG, ICT paid tribute to Harry Potter, Art and Design became Alice in Wonderland, SLT ranged from Little Red Riding Hood to James Bond, plus English, Reception Staff and Student Services.

As well as Fancy Dress, the Library launched 6 new quick reads and grew a Favourite Book Tree in the Learning Commons (pictured below). A short story competition was also announced - 100 words max. with submissions to learningcentre@asfc.ac.uk or handed in to the Library/Learning Commons.

Most recently, the student council encouraged healthy eating with free fruit on Friday and the implementation of suggestion boxes throughout key areas in college.
