In its 15th year, The Georges returns to celebrate the incredible standard of work produced by Creative Digital Arts students at Ashton Sixth Form College.

The Awards ceremony highlights those students who have worked exceptionally throughout the year, representing a range of styles from short films to animation to games design to magazine covers to advertising campaigns to screenplays. As the Creative Industry progresses and advances, so do the awards and the standard of work produced by Creative Digital Arts students continues to raise the bar.

The Georges were named after George Coutts, a Media Studies teacher at the college who tragically passed away in 2001. The awards have gone from strength to strength forming the incredible event it is now. In an Oscars-style format, the work of the winners and nominees is displayed on screen, showcasing the sheer talent of future directors, editors, script writers, photographers, designers and animators. The awards were presented by Brian Copper and Dan Atkinson.

At The Georges, the college invites previous students who are now well-established alumni, working in the Creative Industries to present various awards including:

Daniel Peak (Writer at BBC, and BAFTA winner)
Nick Beddows and Fraser Cottrell (From Fraggell Productions)
Kyle Ogden (Video Editor)

Awards were also presented by Claudia Dal Santo (Model and Presenter in Italy) and Darren Darnborough (Actor and Producer living in LA) via video link.

Stephanie Vicario-Bell, Head of Creative Digital Arts & ICT at Ashton Sixth Form College said,

The Georges Awards was a fantastic day! We are so proud of all our students across Media, Film, Games and IT courses. The standard of work gets better every year and their commitment to their subjects is fantastic. We have a lot of exceptionally talented young people and it's a privilege to teach them.

This year there was the award named in memory of James Haggerty, an Ashton Sixth Form College student who tragically died in June 2014. The James Haggerty award is given to students who go above and beyond - a fitting memorial to James.

The Online Award is the only award voted by students and staff across college. Via the college intranet, the college community viewed the nominees and voted their favourites.
