38 students from Religious Studies and Law subjects travelled 1,050 miles across Europe to Italy last week to explore Rome.

The trip allowed students to apply their classroom-based learning to the real world. Rome was the destination as the vast amount of religious locations and legal history was invaluable for students to explore.

Students visited the Vatican, as well as the Sistine Chapel in the Apostolic Palace, the official residence of the Pope, in the Vatican City.

Students then headed over to the Spanish Steps, the Trevi Fountain and The Pantheon, originally a Roman temple, now a church.

Day 3 brought more adventures at The Catacombs and the largest amphitheatre ever built, The Colosseum.

Finally, the group visited the largest church in the world, St Peter's Basilica. 

In just four days, Ashton Sixth Form College's Religious Studies and Law students discovered some of Rome's greatest and most-well known sights. Alongside the visits, the group got to know each other and tasted the excellent Italian food on offer. Improving their social and personal skills, trips that are both educational and memorable allow students to become more confident and passionate about their learning.
