Library Tour Across Manchester with English

22 July 2017

English students went on a library tour across Manchester as part of Ashton Sixth Form College's Enrichment Day.

Beginning at Manchester Victoria Station just a few minutes from Ashton-Under-Lyne, English students explored Cheetham's Library. Founded in 1653, Cheetham's Library is the oldest library in the English-speaking world. The building dates back to 1421.

Following a short walk across the town centre, students visited Manchester Central Library. Known for it's striking architectural structure, the building underwent a £50m refurbishment in 2010.

After a stop for lunch, students ended their tour at the magnificent John Rylands Library. The building opened to the public in 1900 and and "currently holds the Special Collections of The University of Manchester Library" (Rylands).
