D of E walking and canoeing training continues
Duke of Edinburgh students continued their training before the Easter holidays.
While studying at Ashton Sixth Form College students have the opportunity to complete their Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award as part of the enrichment offer. Duke of Edinburgh aims to allow young people to learn new skills, push personal boundaries and meet new people. Students work as part of a team through the five main elements: volunteering, physical, skill, residential, and expedition. For the expedition component of the award, students at Ashton Sixth Form College can choose to complete on foot or by canoe.
Before students complete their expedition, they must first complete various training exercises to build up a number of skills to help them along their way. Recently, students went walking in the Holmfirth region of Holme Moss. Students who opted for the canoe completed their training on the River Mersey.
