Public Services students, currently studying at Ashton Sixth Form College, visited Ashton-Under-Lyne Fire Station. 

Students had the opportunity to explore the station to gain a greater awareness of the responsibility and process within the Fire Service. They were able to try on fire and rescue uniforms, learning about the basic requirements and needs for safety equipment. While at the fire station they met with Firefighters and had chance to ask questions about the roles and responsibilities of the Fire Service.

The full-time vocational course in Public Services provides students with the knowledge and understanding to progress on to a career within the public sector. 

Students explore government and policies, leadership and teamwork, citizenship and diversity, as well as physical preparation and fitness.

In the past, previous students on completion of the Level 3 Public Services course, have gone on to degrees including:

• Policing Studies and Cybercrime at Liverpool John Moores University
• Criminology at the University of York 
• Fire and Leadership at UCLAN.

Students have also progressed by apprenticeship or employment on to the:

• Armed Forces 
• Greater Manchester Police
• Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service
• Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service

Trips such as this one, allow students to think more clearly about their futures and the career path they wish to take in the future.
