Over 70 students represented Team Ashton
Wednesdays at Ashton Sixth Form College are an extremely busy day for sport. This week in particular saw over 70 students take part in competitive sporting fixtures or training sessions both at the college campus and acoss the North West.
Ashton's netball team continued their winning streak beating Marple Sixth Form College 37-22 away on Marple's home court. The women's netball team have grown from strength to strength paving the way for a very successful season.
Men's football saw two games played on the college sports fields. The Ashton men's first team narrowly lost 2-1 to Marple Sixth Form College. This game marks Ashton's first league defeat in a year and a half. The men's football team have shown incredible dedication to their sport and this astonishing statistic only proves that further.
The college's Manchester City team in partnership with City in the Community, faced Cheadle College's City team, ending in a 6-1 defeat.
The men's basketball team took home the win over Sir John Deane's College from Northwich.
Rugby is the college's most recent addition to the sporting offer. The college has partnered with England Rugby having been accepted on to the RFU Focus Programme. Over 20 students participated in Rugby training as they prepare for their first 15-a-side fixture next week. In particular, the coaches have highlighted Olly Richardson, Josh Meredith and Tom Singleton Kelly "who have shown great leadership and have provide some great support to the rugby coach".
Ashton's Rugby team will face Aquinas College at Aldwinians RUFC next Wednesday at 2pm.
