It is not long until the Art and Design students and staff make themselves home in their brand new building at Ashton Sixth Form College.

The new Art and Design building is purpose built to house A-Level courses 3-D Design and Technology, Fine Art, Graphic Design and Photography, alongside the HE Foundation Year course in Art and Design. The new building will provide a creative space that allows students the freedom to improve their skills and find their passion.

The building work began in July of 2018 and has completely transformed the college campus once again. Before the work began, the old Public Services classrooms stood in its place. The Public Services classrooms were an addition to the Main Building which dates back to 1928. However, with the construction of the IT building, the Public Services team moved in to a brand new section of the campus and the old classrooms fell out of use. 

In July, the Public Services classrooms were demolished and the new Art and Design building began to take shape rapidly. 

Plans for a new Art and Design building began due to the growing demand for creative courses year on year. With more students wanting to work creatively, the department needed more space and this new building allows Art and Design to dramatically improve their facilities at the college. Students and staff will be able to expand their creative community and truly make the place their own.

The new Art and Design building will feature state-of-the-art photography studios, dark rooms and heat treatments rooms, as well as a viewing terrace.

Recently, the Art and Design Team, alongside Principal Anton McGrath, had a sneak peak at the on-going build and the results so far are tremendous.

Huge windows and sky lights will provide the most natural light possible creating outstanding working conditions. Large classrooms provide the freedom for students to work creatively and without boundaries. The main atrium and entrance to the building features an astounding entrance, ready to inspire anyone who walks through its doors.
