Computer Science students took part in the Tameside HACK6 back in February. They competed over two days in a range of challenges and were required 'to create a project that would enhance daily life using data'.

Students from Ashton Sixth Form College won the first place prize for the challenge set by Purple WiFi. As a result, they won a drone, vouchers and work experience with the company. During the half-term, students took part in this work experience opportunity.  

Purple WiFi provide companies with guest wifi solutions, analytics and engagement platforms.

During the work experience opportunity, students gained a better understanding of the company and the various roles that currently sit within the Development department.

Students were able to meet key members of the Purple WiFi team, explore the importance of QA & Manual VS automated testing and took part in tutorials and workshops on how to build a component. They also looked at security and common pitfalls within the industry.

After lunch, students went on to discover Architect solutions and languages, API testing and manual testing with postman, as well as understanding app server deployment monitoring.

Work experience with companies such as Purple WiFi, allow students to understand the range of career opportunities available to them after they complete their qualifications. They were able to see firsthand the way their A-Level in Computer Science could be used in the future out in the working world. It also provides students with the employability skills to achieve above and beyond.
