ECFA funding secured for Women's Football
Ashton Sixth Form College have secured funding from the English Colleges Football Association. The funding will allow the college to develop their women's football team and ensure it's success.
The college was chosen out of 100 applicants to receive the funding and will help establish a strong women's futsal team over the next 3 years.
This past academic year saw a women's 5-aside team become established and despite being a relatively new team, their commitment and hard work pushed them all the way to the finals. Additional funding from the ECFA will allow this team to grow and push them to the next level. The money will help provide qualified and licensed coaches, referees and resources to help the women's team improve their skills and abilities. It will also cover the costs of football kits, transport and travel. The ECFA fund will ensure the women's team are able to enter leagues to compete at high level with other teams across the North West.
Ashton is extremely passionate about ensuring their students are able to join a sporting community that is thriving. For the next academic year, the college will now offer an extensive roster of competitive sports including: 4 men’s football teams, a netball team, a men’s basketball team, a women’s futsal team, a rugby 7’s team and a men’s 15 a side rugby team. This combined with other sports for general fitness and community ensures students have an incredible range of opportunities to choose from.
