The Bank of England visited Ashton Sixth Form College to speak with Business and Accounting students. 

Chief Operating Officer of the Bank of England, Joanna Place, spoke about what the Bank of England actually does. She commented on how everyone has heard of the Bank of England, and yet many do not understand what the bank does at an operational level day-to-day.

Joanna was previously the Executive Director of HR and the Head of Customer Banking Division, playing a key role in the country's financial crisis in 2008.

Brian Sloan was also in attendance during the visit in his role at the Bank of England as Deputy Agent for the North West. 

The Bank of England was created in 1694 and its roles have transformed dramatically since then. Joanna explained how most notably they are responsible for printing money across England and Wales. Beyond printing money, the Bank of England are responsible for ensuring the stability and safety of the country's financial system, alongside the smooth running of the economy. 

The visit provided Business students with the rare opportunity to understand more about how the country works on a financial level from those who know it best. It also allowed them to look at the changing financial environment on a personal level. They were able to ask questions and gain a greater insight in to the future careers available to them.
