Art students exhibit at Alexandra Palace
Brad Foster, Neil Chikono and Sian Lloyd had their work celebrated on display at an exhibition in the East Court of Alexandra Palace in London. The exhibition formed part of the SFCA's National Art Exhibition 2019.
This year's theme was "Cloud Land" and the official brief asked students to,
"consider the ways in which Art, Science and Technology came together in the exploits and experiments of early pioneers of aeronautics, and how this is still relevant today."
Brad, Neil and Sian submitted their work, each producing unique interpretations of the brief that were then on display to the public. This year, all three students have completed their Art Foundation Year at Ashton Sixth Form College. Prior to that they also studied their A-Levels at the college. Through their foundation degree in partnership with Staffordshire University, they have spent the past year refining their artistic skills and realising their passions. Each student is now progressing on to an incredible Art degree at university.
Their final year projects were also presented at the Arts Festival 2019. The event showcased the amazing talent of the college's Art students and also marked the grand opening of the brand new Art and Design building. Art Foundation Year students exhibited their work in the studio space that will be dedicated solely to the students on the degree programme.
Brad studied Fine Art, Photography and Maths, achieving A*A*A. He also received the Fine Art prize at the annual college Awards Evening in 2018. He began his high school education at West Hill School and is pictured below with a copy of the work that went on display at Alexandra Palace. In September he will go on to study Architecture at the University of Manchester.
At A-Level, Neil studied Textiles, English Literature and Business (A*AB). His entry in to the exhibit focused on the visual representation of black holes. Neil studied at Longdendale High School and has been accepted to join Central Saint Martins at the University of the Arts London, boasting alumni including Stella McCartney, Alexander McQueen, John Galliano and Matthew Williamson.
Sian studied Fine Art, Photography and Religious Studies at Ashton after attending Fairfield High School for Girls. Her piece was dedicated to inspirational women, and in particular Amelia Earheart, the first female aviator to fly solo across the Atlantic. Following the completion of her Foundation Year, Sian will now go on to study Illustration with Animation at MMU.
