XL students who have identified a passion to progress on to either the University of Cambridge or the University of Oxford, were able to attend an Admissions session in the Lecture Theatre. 

The Admissions session was run by Dr. Peter Claus, an Access Fellow from Pembroke College, Oxford. The aim of the session was to break down any barriers students felt towards applying to Oxbridge. Dr. Claus allowed the students to talk about some of the stereotypes they felt surrounding the institutions and encouraged them to discuss the realty of studying at Cambridge and Oxford.

Students gained a greater understanding of the application process and what the universities are looking to see from candidates. They were also introduced to the interview process and what to expect in the future.

The session was open to students who are currently part of the XL programme at Ashton. The programme aims to provide high achieving students with the support they need to progress on to the most competitive institutions in the country. Students who have Oxford or Cambridge in their sights have access to a wealth of opportunities and this session is just the very beginning. During their two years at Ashton, XL students will be able to attend university open days, shadowing schemes, trips and residential, summer schools, and mock interviews.
