Level 2 Business students visit engineering consultants
Level 2 Business students from Ashton Sixth Form College went on a trip to TP Group plc.
TP Group plc is an engineering consultancy and manufacturing company with 8 offices in the UK and 1 office in Washington, DC in the US. Their northern office is based in the Tameside borough just 2.5 miles from the college in Dukinfield.
In class, the Level 2 business students have recently been exploring the different functions and organisation of businesses in different sectors. The visit to TP Group allowed them to look at the manufacturing industry and how a company of this size operates. As well as how the various components of a business such as HR and Finance are incorporated.
During the visit, students were given a tour of the factory providing them with the opportunity to explore the company from ground level. Their tour of the factory and warehouse floor provided great context for the the talk that followed from one of TP Group's Design Engineers. They spoke about the work that they do and the impact they have on the company. TP Group explained how they currently work on a range of programmes "across defence, energy, space, and intelligence & systems" (tpgroup.uk.com). Students were given an insight in to some of these areas and the roles different people play in the business while working to achieve shared goals.
Level 2 Business students are currently gaining a foundation of knowledge and skills to equip them in their later careers. Students at Ashton who successfully complete their level 2 programme have the opportunity to progress on to level 3 vocational courses in Business, IT, Public Services and more.
