Library mark LGBT History Month

7 February 2020

LGBT History Month is observed in a number of countries, and in the UK LGBT History Month is marked in February.

Since 1994, the month has aimed to increase the visibility of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people through sharing their history and experiences. It also works to raise awareness, educate and promote welfare.

The Library at Ashton Sixth Form College have chosen to highlight an 'LGBT icon of the day' throughout the month of February. Each day they share a literary work written about or by an individual who identifies as LGBT.

Already this month, the Library have shined a spotlight on computer scientist and enigma code breaker Alan Turing, landowner and diarist Anne Lister aka Gentleman Jack, LGBT icon of the day is poet and LGBT historian Edward Carpenter and Olympic boxer Nicola Adams.
