Two second year students, Dan Conroy and Anna Papaoikonomou, have successfully gained a place on the Home BFI Film Academy 2020. 

Dan is currently studying at Ashton on an A Level programme taking Media Studies, Film Studies and English Language & Literature. He is also part of the XL High Achievers programme and previously, he studied at Audenshaw School.

Anna is currently studying English Language, Media Studies and Sociology at Ashton Sixth Form College.She is also part of the Student Council and is the Environmental Officer for the college.

The BFI Film Academy is a two month long project encouraging young people to develop their skills in the arts. The academy provides them with an insight in to the film industry from film making and theory to distribution and certification. 

Adapting to the current situation, the programme will be delivered both online and in-person through a series of sessions and workshops. Dan and Anna will join a group of other young people with shared interests and passions. They will learn from industry professionals and be invited to a range of opportunities and events.

According to HOME, The Academy will cover:

"4 sessions on the history of film and the development of British and world cinema
2 sessions on film programming, promotion and certification
4/5 days of practical filmmaking (a short documentary film will be made)
and Participants will be encouraged to undertake a Silver Arts Award as part of the course"
