On Wednesday 11th November at 1pm, the Art and Design department hosted an an ‘art happening’ event in the college Peace Garden.

“Just as one can hear any desired syllable in the sound of a bell, so one can see any desired figure in the shape formed by throwing a sponge with ink against the wall.” - Leonardo da Vinci

The event was a live performance event, in which a 'firing squad' of Art Foundation students performed a surrealist artistic process called bulletism. Using an art harquebus, Art students threw paint soaked 'bullets' at a blank canvas. 

Also linked to Dada (an art movement formed during the First World War in Zurich in negative reaction to the horrors and folly of the war), the intention was to conduct a nonsensical act which transforms into a positive, creative, poignant and symbolic Remembrance Day commemorative act. Following the event, students were able to see the piece of art they created collectively.

The canvas is an ongoing art piece and will be finished in the coming days.
