Public Services welcome guest speaker from the Probation Service
Second year students studying Public Services at Ashton, were finally able to welcome a guest speaker to the classroom this year.
The guest speaker was a representative from the The National Probation Service. The Probation Service is a criminal justice service whose main roles are to supervise high-risk offenders in the community and provide reports to the criminal courts. Their role is complex and extremely varied from case to case.
As part of the Public Services course, students gain a broad understanding of the uniformed Public Services, looking closely at crime and its effects on society. The department regularly invite employers and public servants in to the classroom to allow students to see the extensive range of roles available to them after college.
As well as talking about her own role, the guest speaker also spoke about the role of the Probation Service and the importance of their role on the wider community. Students were able to ask questions, allowing them to make more informed decisions about their career pathways.
