Boccia Leaders Award for Sport students

6 December 2021

Second year Sport students recently took part in the Boccia England Leaders Award.

Students are currently studying a full-time vocational course in Sport and gain vital experience on placements working in schools, sports centres and a range of other sports settings.

The Boccia Leaders Award teaches the sport, Boccia. Boccia is designed for those athletes with high support needs. It has been a Paralympic sport since 1984 and has no Olympic equivalent.

As part of the Leadership Award, students learned the basics and how to officiate the game. They also gained an overview of disability awareness and classification of the sport. They then looked at the skills and practices needed to coach the game.

The Sport and Public Services department regularly host workshops and invite guest speakers to give students unique opportunities to build their skills and understanding.
