Speakers of the Month - March 2023 roundup
Last week, we have welcomed a variety of guest speakers into college.
First up was Daniel Wilsher, who delivered seven sessions in total to our students over two days. Daniel delivered his 'Damaged Goods' talk, which is an interactive journey, with the purpose of developing character and inspiring internal growth within the students. Daniel explored his own mental health journey and how he found the power to turn his darkest moments into a brighter future. Thank you to Daniel for interacting with our students and inspiring them!
On Thursday, we were visited by Paleontologist, Dr Dean Lomax. Dr Lomax explored his career journey with students, from his passion of Dinosaurs as a young child to achieving a PhD in palaeontology and travelling world wide to discover and excavate fossils. Students were fascinated with Dean's stories, especially the excavation of the 'Rutland Sea Dragon', the most complete skeleton of a large prehistoric reptile ever found in the UK!
Finally, on Friday we welcomed Professor Julie Gibbs from the University of Manchester. We hosted a STEM Conference for Year 10's from the local area this day and so, Professor Julie was invited to speak to Year 10's and Ashton Sixth Form College students.
Julie explored her work and research on the human body clock and inflammatory pathways. Students found the talk very interesting!
Thank you to Daniel, Dr Dean and Professor Julie for visiting us and sharing your knowledge with our students!
