Former Film Studies student wins Moving Image Awards!

17 March 2023

Various young filmmakers have been recognised for their work at the ninth annual Eduqas Moving Image Awards held at the British Film Institute, London.

Each year, students studying Film or Media Studies are invited to submit their work for a chance to win an award. The awards are aimed at encouraging young people to consider a career within the film industry.

Former Ashton Sixth Form College student, Cerys Devane studied Film Studies before leaving college last year. Whilst at college, Cerys submitted her work and successfully won the Best Screenplay award!

The piece of work Cerys submitted was short film, Therapy Scene, which follows a young girl's navigation through the aftermath of a familial argument that resulted in her being ostracised.

The Judges commented:

"The screenplay take the standard tropes of the therapy situation but deals with them in a slightly different way. Good plotting and a great use of direct to camera address. There is a great sense of a slow reveal in the narrative which was extremely well-handled."

The Digital Technologies and Multimedia department and Cerys' former teachers are incredibly proud of her achievement! Cerys is now studying Classical Studies at King's College London.

Well Done Cerys!
