Oxnet Study Skills Day 2024

14 February 2024

This year, Ashton Sixth Form College hosted OxNet’s Study Skills Day for Philosophy & World Religions students. Fifteen students from across the North West and London visited the college to take part in a variety of activities to introduce them to the programme!

The day involved an introduction regarding how to make the most of the upcoming Seminar Series, an academic study skills session with Dr Peter Claus and a taster lecture on ‘Christianity in Egypt’ with Dr Chloe Agar. The event not only enabled students to start thinking like an Oxford undergraduate, but was a great opportunity meet their cohort and develop their subject knowledge further.

“The day was a great success. The students were very engaged and asked some great questions. I look forward to working closely with the Philosophy & World Religions cohort and academics supporting this year’s course. We are also proud of the six ASFC students who are enrolled onto one of five academically-intense OxNet programmes for 2023/24!”

Six students from Ashton Sixth Form College have successfully gained places on the OxNet programmes: 3 on the OxNet Science programme, 2 on the OxNet English programme, 1 on the OxNet Philosophy and World Religions programme and 1 on the Languages programme.

To close the Study Skills Day, students were given their ‘Course Reader’ to prepare them for the upcoming Seminar Series. The programme is delivered by academics from Pembroke College, Oxford and works in close collaboration with Ashton Sixth Form College; this year’s Seminar Series focuses on the theme of ‘The Challenge of Religion: Problems and Solutions in a Time of Global Crisis’.
