Six Offers from Oxbridge!
Ashton Sixth Form College has enjoyed another successful year for Oxford and Cambridge applications with a total of six offers for our successful applicants.
It has been a good year for Languages with positive applications to study Spanish with Italian at Cambridge for Rhiannon Power and French with German at Oxford for Ellis Hesketh. The Humanities is also a strong choice for our applicants, with offers to study Geography at Oxford for Annie Simm and History at Cambridge for Hannah Dyball. Erica Davis has also received an offer to study Natural Sciences (Biological) at Cambridge and Monica Dey has received an offer to study Psychological and Behavioural Sciences at the University of Cambridge.
We at Ashton Sixth Form College are immensely proud of our students and the range of disciplines they have chosen. With the balance of traditional academic subjects such as Languages and Humanities and more specialised courses such as Psychological and Behavioural Sciences, it shows how our strongest pupils can not only prove their expertise in the A Level subjects they study here at Ashton Sixth Form College, but that they demonstrate their aptitude for new academic courses.
Ashton Sixth Form College believes that there is so much more to get out of college than working in a classroom. We offer a strong enrichment programme and one in which all of this year’s Oxbridge students have been involved in such as clubs, societies and our Student Ambassador Scheme. Most of them have taken part in our Raising Aspirations programme, which allows our students to attend lectures and seminars delivered by an academic from over 17 universities for their chosen subject, as well as giving the students a chance to visit a university and see what university life has to offer. On top of this we also liaise with the prestigious Pembroke North Scheme, which this year has seen all six of our first year applicants secure a place, promising big things from next year’s cohort.
Karen Kennedy, senior tutor, mentored our Oxbridge students through the tough application process and is delighted with the success these students have achieved, In return the students are especially grateful to Karen and believe that they could not have got through the process without her. Monica had to say that ‘Karen is the best! She gave me the confidence to actually put my application through. She was even there on the phone the day I had my interview and helped to keep me as calm as possible – I was still nervous but having her on the line helped a lot’.
