During the summer students have been completing the expedition component of their Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award.

Two groups of students took part in their final expedition in July. This is arguably one of the most physically demanding components to the Duke of Edinburgh award.

Some students who chose to canoe as the practical part of their award, spent four days camping in the River Wye area of Wales.

The River Wye stretches over 130 miles and is the fifth longest river in the UK on the border of England and Wales (Visit Wales). Students explored part of this region during a spell of lovely weather. Beginning around the Hereford area, they then finished at Monmouth. 

Duke of Edinburgh students have been preparing for their final expedition throughout the whole academic year, taking part in practice expeditions and training sessions too. The expedition component takes around 12 months to complete, as students improve their responsibility, commitment and team work skills.
