Sport students currently studying on the vocational level 3 course at Ashton Sixth Form College have been working with the local community at Stamford Park. 

The students are working with the Stamford Park Bowling Club to learn bowls. Bill and Dennis from the Bowling Club have donated their time to help the students learn over a few weeks. They were able to learn the rules of the sport, explore different techniques, learn how to record scores and gain an understanding of the process of the game. Bowls as a sport was first played in the 13th Century and is one of the core sports of the Commonwealth Games. 

As part of their course, students take a unit called 'Analysing Sport Performance.' On this particular unit they are required to learn a sport, both technically and tactically. They have to be able to perform the basic skills, as well as observing a professional performance and analyse strengths and weaknesses confidently.

Following this process, students will give feedback to camera in a 'sky sports style' interview.

While the students are learning bowls as part of the course, they are also taking the time to work with the local community. The bowling green within Stamford Park has been a permanent fixture within the park and members of the public often stop to watch the game as they have done for many years.
