Politics students travelled to Manchester Central in the city centre to attend the Northern Power Futures Conference on 23rd November. 

The Northern Power Futures was a two day festival,

"with over 100 leading speakers, panels, workshops influencing the economy, technology, workplace culture, lifestyle, wellbeing and business, designed to inspire and super power the wide-ranging delegates towards a greater working life and career in the North." (Northern Power Futures)

Throughout the day, students were able to attend a range of talks and panels which included 'Financial independence: Managing your money', 'Stories of Leadership from the North', 'Going it alone', 'How to influence policy', and the 'Art of networking'. 

The festival itself was very much looking forward to the future and how various changes are going to influence the future of the North as a work place and a community. It also showed Ashton Sixth Form College's students how they too can have a voice and motion for positive change in the area.

Some of the students also had the opportunity to meet the Metro Mayor for Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham.

Students thoroughly enjoyed the event and had chance to meet a range of people from various backgrounds and industries. The festival was an ideal opportunity for them to network and gain an understanding of the broad range of careers in politics, as well as the major impact political decisions can have on an area.
