SMMS project winners announced in Media

26 March 2019

Social Media Makes Sense have been hosting Media Production students during their work placement project. The Hyde-based company are responsible for the online and digital promotion of various TV shows across major channels including the BBC, ITV and Sky.

Students studying a full-time vocational course in Media Production embarked on a two week long creative project. The students were split into teams and SMMS provided their brief. The brief was to create content for social media in order to promote the TV Show 'Curfew' - a post-apocalyptic drama series broadcast on Sky One throughout March and April 2019.

Throughout the project, Media students developed their skills in team work, communication and problem solving. Working to strict deadlines, they were required to storyboard and edit a promo clip, as well as creating a gif to be used on social media and write various social posts to go alongside their promo and gif.

Following the completion of their work, students then had to present their content back to SMMS.

The project culminated in the winning team getting the opportunity to gain work experience at the SMMS office. Winners were chosen on a combination of quality of content, rationale, communication, teamwork and problem-solving, along with how well they presented their work to the company.

The winning team who received the prize included Luc Jones, Nathan Nuttall, Aiden Rose and Jake Sherwood. An individual award was also presented to Ali Hussain (from a different team) for the animation that he created. The team at SMMS were extremely impressed by the standard of work produced by all of the media students throughout their project.

In a few weeks, the winners will spend some time at the SMMS office learning more about what they do and how the team operates.

Media students on the full-time vocational course expand and improve their skills throughout their course. They learn how to use professional equipment, as well as video, animation and production. Projects such as this, allow students to put those skills in to practice and apply them to the business world.
