Computer Science students took part in the sixth Tameside HACK event in February, hosted at the Advanced Technologies Centre. 

The Tameside HACK returns every year, allowing young people across the borough to compete in coding competitions and build their digital skills. 

Students were split in to teams and set various challenges from the sponsors which included Brother UK, Purple WiFi, One File UK, No Filter Needed, Carro and the Rio Ferdinand Foundation. 

Purple WiFi set the challenge for students to create a project that would enhance daily life using data. Computer Science students from Ashton worked together on this brief over two days. They developed their skills in team work, problem solving and also increased their confidence in the digital world. The winners were announced at the end of the event following a panel of judges. 

'Cookies Cryptic Coding Club' from Ashton Sixth Form College took home the prize for the Purple WiFi challenge. For their reward, the team won a drone, vouchers and also bespoke work experience with the company. 

The Tameside HACK is an incredible event and Computer Science students have attended various HACK events in recent years. In 2018 alone, Computer Science students took home the trophies for Best Hacker, Best Teamwork and Best Team in October, 'Best in Show' at the Great Manchester HACK in June, and 'Best in Show' in March.
