Emergency Medical Technician Graeme Stafford visited first year Level 3 Health & Social Care students at Ashton Sixth Form College. He spoke to students about careers within the North West Ambulance Service.

Tameside Hospital is located just across the road from the college and it is incredible for students to be able to hear about the roles available to them firsthand.

The NWAS handles emergencies across the area, varying in severity, risk and scale. They are also responsible for transporting a number of patients who need extra support to attend hospital appointments. Using the strap line #notjustlightsandsirens the Service is looking to raise awareness of the different roles it recruits to and the range of responsibilities they take on. The Ambulance Service employs entire teams including front line paramedics, technicians and care assistants to call handling, control room and despatch.

Students studying a Health and Social Care course take part in work placements during their studies. These placements combined with guest speakers from employers such as the NHS, allows students to make informed decisions about their futures. They are able to explore the extensive range of opportunities within the health and care sectors.
