Media students win global competition for local business
Media students at Ashton Sixth Form College have been working with an external company, Vitafoam, and their video has been awarded first place in a global company competition.
Over the summer, the college was approached by Vitafoam, a manufacturer of Polyurethane Foam based in Dukinfield, who this year are celebrating their 70 year anniversary. Vitafoam were looking for a set of talented students who would be able to help them make a spoof health and safety video which would then be entered into their global company wide competition.
The Digital Technology and Multimedia department decided to task their second year Media Production students with the project. They are currently on a full-time vocational course at the college and complete various work placements to develop their practical skills alongside theoretical learning.
Media Production students planned their video before visiting Vitafoam in small groups to complete the filming. Using the latest video equipment while also developing their drone videography skills, students were able to get some incredible shots for the company video. After completing the filming process, students all used the same footage to make an individual edit. The various version were then sent to Vitafoam who decided on their favourite. The final video was edited by Nathan Nuttall and this was the video entered in to the competition that also included companies from across the world.
Working to a brief, students gained firsthand experience of working with a client to achieve a goal and also learnt how to successfully deliver a final product that both themselves and the company were happy with.
Representatives from the college visited the Media Production class to deliver the exciting news that the student's entry in to the global competition had won. They presented the students with prizes to show their appreciation for the hardwork they had put in to the project. The company were extremely pleased with the professionalism shown by the students and as a result, they have invited Ashton Sixth Form College to work on future video projects for the company.
