Ashton Sixth Form College’s Additional Learning Support Team recently organised an advice fair to help disabled students hoping to progress to Higher Education.

Disability Officers from the University of Manchester and The University of Salford, along with representatives from Aimhigher Greater Manchester, Connexions and Broadbents Assessment Centre, Mossley visited the college. Current undergraduate students and second year Ashton Sixth Form College students were also on hand to offer their advice and support. The event was organised in order to provide advice for learners with learning difficulties such as Dyslexia, Dyspraxia and Asperger’s Syndrome as well as learners who have physical disabilities or medical conditions, who are entering or considering Higher Education.

Students attending the event were able to learn about the types of Additional Learning Support that is available in Higher Education, and received advice on the importance of setting up support in advance of starting university, this included; sharing information on a university application, and what this means, what Disabled Students’ Allowances are and how to apply, how to access support at every stage from the Student Support Services at a chosen university.
