Public Services Forces Trust Fundraiser

8 November 2011

Public Services students beat colleges from across the North West to be crowned Army Assault Course winners 2011.

Ashton Sixth Form College Public Services students recently visited Altcar Army Training Camp for their Army Careers Exhibition.

Whilst attending the exhibition our students competed against other North West colleges in a number of activities including the Army Assault Course Competition 2011. The Ashton Sixth Form College team were crowned winners of the event and student George Leech also managed to scoop the prize for best individual male.

Army representative, Major Parr visited the college on Friday the 4th of November to present staff and students with their awards. He commented on the team spirit and determination of the assault course winners and also the example set by George, noting that it was very rare for a college to receive both awards.

At the same time on Friday afternoon Public Services students organised a charity fundraiser for The Forces Children’s Trust.

The students had worked together to organise the fundraiser; an old fashioned sports day with events such as the egg and spoon race, tug o’ war, 3 legged race, 100 metres and some 6-a-side football thrown in for good measure.

Students were also selling charity wristbands on the day and at the last count had raised over £200 with more still to come.

The Forces Children’s Trust is a charity devoted to working together to help children in need whose father or mother has died, or has sustained life threatening injuries, whilst a serving member of the British Armed Forces. www.forceschildrenstrust.org
