Dr Guy Sutton returned to Ashton Sixth Form College to deliver a lecture series known as Brain Day.

Ashton Sixth Form College's Psychology students attended the annual Brain Day event to explore a range of topics that both relate to their studies and also extend beyond the curriculum. Students had the opportunity to consolidate their knowledge from the classroom, learning about the complex components of the brain. Dr Guy Sutton spoke about some of the misconceptions of the workings of the brain and the research he has worked on over a number of years. 

Students learned about aspects of Psychology beyond their A-Level studies, approaching the subject from a degree level perspective. They were able to explore specific branches of Psychology and the biology of the brain, such as mental disorders including schizophrenia.

As part of the day, students were able to watch a dissection of a sheep's brain. Dr Guy Sutton guided them through the dissection and even allowed students to get involved too. It was a particular popular part of the day and not something many get to experience at college. 

The range of topics covered, alongside Dr Guy Sutton's enthusiasm and passion for Psychology, allowed students to discover areas they could potentially go on to specialise in later in their careers. 

Dr Guy Sutton is an expert in neuroscience and genetics. He is the Director and Founder of Medical Biology Interactive (MBI) and Honorary (Consultant) Assistant Professor in the Division of Psychiatry at the University of Nottingham.
