The XL Academy English Conference
Last week, we welcomed Year 10's from local high schools across Tameside to our XL Academy English Conference.
This is the third XL Academy Conference we have hosted this year at Ashton Sixth Form College. The theme of the day was English Literature and English Language, with students participating in workshops throughout the day delivered by our English teachers. The Head of The XL Academy, Damian Windle also gave students an introduction to The XL Academy, our long-lasting programme for high achieving students.
Students also welcomed Manchester Poet, Tony Walsh to the conference who delivered several of poems, including his most famous piece of work, 'This Is The Place', written for Forever Manchester following the terror attack in 2017. Tony also explored the poems and unpicked them with students, looking at themes, meanings and techniques he uses.
Students had a fantastic day learning more about The XL Academy, what it's like to study A Level English Literature and English Language at Ashton Sixth Form College and hearing from Tony Walsh. Thank you all for participating!
